Overview

Hype:

Towering 502 feet above the Green River and completed in 1964, the Flaming Gorge Dam was built to provide water storage and hydroelectric power. The visitor center is a great place to start any tour of Flaming Gorge Country. A large 3D model, on-going films and interpretive displays give a good overview of the myriad of recreational opportunities that await. Perched at the edge of the dam and along the water, an easy stroll rewards visitors with great scenic views. On the north side of the parking lot, visitors can stroll down to the water along the easy Dam Point Trail, where there is a picnic area and fishing opportunities.

Story

As part of our high adventure activity with the Priests and Teachers, we stopped at the visitor center and took the dam tour. The elevator was broken, so we didn't get to go down inside the dam, but it was still informative and fun. Our guide a great.

We had the 1999 Burnet family reunion at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. It was cool to play in the lake and take a tour of the dam.
