We visited the south rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park on our return trip from Denver in April 2012. The Black Canyon is up to 2,722 feet deep and as narrow as 40 feet across at the bottom and 1,100 feet at the top. There are several small hikes to lookouts and more difficult hikes down to the river.
