Materials

  • 18 pieces 3/4" x 4" x 2' of MDF (medium-density fibreboard) or your favorite type of wood
  • 20 dowels 1/4" diameter by 1" long
  • Paint
  • Varnish

Tools

  • Table saw
  • Miter saw
  • Drill press
  • Glue
  • Paint brush or roller

Instructions

This is a great do it yourself (DIY) project that's quick, easy, and inexpensive. I got the basic idea from a Lowes magazine that came in the mail. The online version can be found at http://lowescreativeideas.com/Home101/Stack_It_Up_Table_0911.aspx.

Cut the boards.

Sand the edges so they're not so pointy.

Paint the boards.

Cut the dowell into 20, 2-inch pieces.

Mark where the first two layers touch and drill the necessary holes.

Start from the bottom layer and work your way up.

I originally planned to have just 4 boards as the table top, but that looked too small, so I added 2 more.
