Hype:

Fins and Things is a fun, entry-level technical canyon near Moab, UT. There is one drop that requires a rappel and two other drops that may be downclimbed or rappelled. This canyon is located in Sand Flats Recreation Area, so an entrance fee is required.

Navigate to 38.580118, -109.499382.

Route

Approach

The trail begins on the Fins and Things Safari Route (4x4 trail). Walk along the jeep trail for 0.51 miles to the junction. Leave the Jeep trail and cross over to the top of Fins and Things Canyon.

Canyon

Once in the canyon, navigation is easy; just follow the drainage down. 

Drop #1 - Downclimb down through (or over) a bunch of chockstones.

Drop #2 - Downclimb 10-15 feet (some may wish to rappel).

Drop #3 - Rappel 15 feet (underhung).

Story

We did Fins and Things Canyon for Anthony's birthday party. We started at 11:40 at the Fins and Things trailhead and finished at 3:40 at the Millcreek trailhead. This was the first canyon where Savannah rappelled down by herself.
