Story

Tara loaded up all of the Odyssey of the Mind stuff into the truck and took it back to the middle school. When Savannah and the rest of the group finished school, they all frantically worked on finishing their Rube Goldberg machine. They ran out of time and weren't able to troubleshoot the last few steps of the machine or practice their skit as much as they wanted to. Madi and Cooper walked home, and Ari picked up Cooper so he could play with Miller. Madi stayed home and read a book by herself. At about 5:30, Tara went home and picked up Madi and a few last minute items.

I taught my BYU classes, which ended at 5:45, and I ran out as fast as I could so that I could try to get to the middle school by 6:00 when the Odyssey of the Mind showcase started. I got there after the first group was done but before Savannah's group, which was just in time. Savannah's group got their Rube Goldberg machine transported onto the stage and tried to get everything put together so it would work. They had a bunch of issues with getting the paint can to balance and some other things to reset correctly and it didn't work as well as they were hoping. They spent a ton of time leading up to the event and were a bit disappointed that it didn't work as smoothly as they were hoping. They still did a great job and made a very impressive machine. After the showcase was over, we went to Springville to pick up Cooper and then went to Cafe Rio for dinner to celebrate. After we got our food, Savannah broke down in tears. It was triggered by her not getting the burrito the way she wanted it, but really it was an expression of stress from the event and not having it work the way she was hoping it would. We talked through that and she felt better.
