Despite a lot of protesting, we got the kids up and met my parents at the staging area for the Art City Days parade.
My dad had built a float for the FamilySearch Center that included a boat trailer, a train trailer, a covered wagon trailer, and a Statue of Liberty trailer. The theme was By Sail, By Rail, and By Trail.
Cooper, Killian, Miller, and Calliope dressed up and rode in the boat. Savannah and Madi walked in front carrying the banner.
Tara, my mom, and I walked alongside, picking up candy from the road and tossing it to the crowd. We waved to the Laurendeaus and then returned home.

After work, the kids stayed home while Tara and I met up with Anthony and Amanda Laurendeau for a jigsaw puzzle competition. It was hosted by the senior citizen center during Art City Days. We didn’t go in expecting to win—just to have fun.
As the competition was about to start, they asked one person from each team to come up for an announcement. A man shared info about upcoming competitions and casually mentioned he had just returned from the national jigsaw puzzle competition, where he placed first in the men’s division. We definitely felt a little out of place!
After 48 minutes, there was cheering—the national team had finished. We were only about halfway through. But we kept going, and my parents showed up to cheer us on. When we were about three-quarters done, my dad told us he’d checked out all the other tables and we had the fewest pieces left. Out of 22 teams, we finished in second place with a time of 84 minutes! We were so excited—adrenaline was high.A few minutes before we finished, one of the proctors asked why we weren’t using the reference picture inside the box. We didn’t realize there was a second picture inside—whoops!
Afterward, we chatted with Amanda, then Matt joined us. We drove to Spanish Fork and used our prize gift cards at Cold Stone. We talked and brainstormed my Story Trail entertainment business idea. We wrapped up around 10:30. Amanda offered to clean our house between exchanges.
