Hype:
Brighton Ski Resort sits high in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains and benefits from some of the best snow conditions in North America, often receiving hundreds of inches of snowfall each season. Its terrain is thoughtfully balanced, offering gentle learning areas alongside more advanced bowls, glades, and park features, which makes it a versatile destination for a wide range of visitors. The resort’s infrastructure includes multiple lifts, rental services, ski schools, and cozy lodges that enhance the overall experience.
One of Brighton’s standout features is its relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere compared to some larger, more commercial resorts. It has a strong local following and is especially popular among snowboarders, partly due to its terrain parks and progressive features. Night skiing is another major draw, allowing guests to extend their time on the slopes well into the evening, which is less common at many other resorts.
Beyond winter sports, the surrounding Big Cottonwood Canyon offers scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities year-round, though Brighton is primarily a winter-focused destination. Its proximity to Salt Lake City makes it easily accessible, adding to its appeal for both tourists and residents seeking quick access to high-quality skiing and snowboarding.

Tara packed up all the skiing stuff and gathered the kids right after school. They picked me up at my work a little after 4:00, and we went up to Brighton to go skiing as a family. We used our GetOutPass for free admission. We borrowed the Laurendeaus’ skis and met Anthony and Miller up there. Amanda’s parents offered to give us some coaching, which was very appreciated. They showed us how to slow down and turn, and we rode the Explorer lift several times doing that hill. Savannah had a hard time her first time down because it was very scary for her. Madi picked up on it pretty quickly, and Cooper also had a lot of fun. We rode that run half a dozen times, then for a final run of the day, we went to the next lift all the way up the mountain. It was a very long run and it was kind of scary in spots. All of us crashed a lot of times during the day, but nothing serious. By the time we were done, it was very icy and hard to steer. Cooper was getting pretty tired and couldn’t stay up, so Amanda’s dad skied with him to help him get down. Tara took a tumble right at the bottom of the run and peeled back her thumbnail and went into shock from that, so she laid down to rest for a bit. We all went to the cars and organized skis and things to take back, then drove home. We stopped for pizza on the way, eating dinner at 10:00 p.m. The kids were quite scared leading up to the trip and at the start, but they ended up having a lot of fun and said that they would all go back again if they had the chance.
