Overview

Hype:

CLAS Ropes Course has a variety of activities and programs that will challenge you, your friends, family, coworkers, and teammates to master challenges and conquer fears. The one major problem though is that you don't get to choose which activities you want to participate in. The facilitator has you do whatever they choose and you have no say.

Story

Marci's family went to CLAS for their family reunion, but they had several people drop out last minute, so they invited us to go instead. When we went, they didn't let us choose which activities we wanted or how long we got to spend at each activity.

Online, the Adventure Park is advertised as "an aerial obstacle course series of bridges and platforms with varying levels of difficulty to cross. Participants wear a harness with a special locking lanyard that safeguards them from falling if they slip or let go." There are all sorts of cool pictures of the obstacle course. The website makes it seem like you can do that for 2 hours, but that was not our experience.

About 1.5 hours of our 2 hour block was spent doing low ropes course activities, which were entertaining to a low degree but not what we were wanting to be doing. We spent the first 1.5 hours of our 2-hour block switching places on a log and balancing on a platform and walking on foam pads across the field (all activities we could do at home for basically free). We didn't get to climb the climbing wall or swing on the giant swing or jump for a ring or climb a notched log or even do all of the ropes course segments because we ran out of time before we could do them all. Madi left in tears of disappointment because she didn't get to do the lower level of the ropes course because we ran out of time. And frankly I felt the same way. I could understand if they were really busy and there were lines at the different stations, but the place was basically empty.

It felt like I was waiting in line for 1.5 hours so that I could have 30 minutes of what I wanted to do.

Jeremy Dye,

Story

I took the BSA climbing training and certification course. It was 10 hours. I learned a couple of things regarding the way that BSA wants you to do things, but most of the rest of the information was just review for me.
