Overview

Hype:

This historical marker explains this history and significance of a massive sixty-five foot Montana-type headframe. Constructed in about 1890, these “gallows” were housed under a frame structure that measured 40 x 119 feet and approximately 70 feet in height. The headframe allowed mining from depths of 300 to over 3,000 feet below the surface.

Story

Savannah and I stopped to read the historical marker on our way home from Paul Bunyan's Woodpile. I had no idea there used to be such a massive underground min where we were standing.
