Hype:
Kyhv Peak (KIVE, like "dive," from a Ute word for "mountain") is a peak in the Wasatch range. It was once known as "Squaw Peak" and was officially renamed in 2022 as part of a federal order to remove the ethnic slur "squaw" from federally owned places in the United States. As the trail heads are located further from paved roads than other trails to comparable peaks in the area, it is not as popular of a hike as others in Rock Canyon.
Trail Condition: Class 2 (Trail may have tree roots or rocks jutting out. Navigation skills may consist of following rock cairns and choosing turns at junctions. Elevation gains may be more substantial.)
Time: 5 hours
Length: 7.1 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
Fees: Parking

There are a couple trailheads to hike Kyhv Mountain. This trailhead is at Rock Canyon Campground.

We headed to the Rock Canyon Trailhead and met Marci to hike to the top of Kyhv Peak. It was a hot day, but we had enough shade to make the hike bearable. Both girls did amazing and hiked aggressively. We loved the wildflowers along the way, especially the large fields of yellow ones. At the peak, we were amused to find a Buddha statue someone had carried up. We had snacks at the top and hiked back down.
