Story

Zombie Fallout

We did the Zombie Fallout room as a group of 4.

Pros

  • Room decorating and theming was well done.
  • The puzzles mostly matched the story and didn't break immersion.
  • Good for 4 people but probably not more.
  • Experience was fun.
  • Live actor was there but not overbearing.

Cons

  • Linear puzzle flow makes it difficult to have more than 4 people.
  • Several broken puzzles.
  • We could see that old puzzles have been removed, but there were still remnants showing.
  • Lighting was less than adequate.
  • Two of the provided flashlights didn't work well.

Story

The Row Room

We all went to Alcatraz for a little after-Christmas gift to ourselves. We had a great time.

Pros

  1. The room decorating and theming was good.
  2. The props were very well done.
  3. The puzzles matched the story and didn't break immersion.
  4. There were several very creative puzzles.
  5. The game master was just the right amount of helpful.
  6. Lighting was good.
  7. There were some fun physical elements.
  8. Combination locks were used sparingly.
  9. Puzzles were identifiable.

Cons

  1. Some puzzles could be brute-forced through trial and error.
  2. Puzzle flow was very linear. At any given time, there was at least 1 person not doing anything because there weren't enough puzzles to work on at the same time.
  3. A couple of the puzzles didn't have the "aha" moment where you know you have the correct answer before you attempt to input the answer.
  4. Some of the puzzles were too easy for our group.
  5. Some of the puzzles didn't have a clear objective or had multiple plausible answers. Especially the arrows puzzle, that was the worst!
  6. Half our group was not present for the grand finale because they were in the other room working on a puzzle that had already been solved but wasn't clear.

Wizard Hysteria Room (rebranded to Enchanter's Curse)

I bought tickets to Alcatraz for Tara for Mother's day. We invited Jacob and Kylie to go with us. We did the Wizard Hysteria room. We had a great time. We escape in a little over half an hour.

Pros

  1. The room decorating and theming was awesome.
  2. The props were very well done.
  3. The puzzles matched the story and didn't break immersion.
  4. There were several very creative puzzles.
  5. The game master was just the right amount of helpful.
  6. Lighting was barely adequate.
  7. There were some fun physical elements.
  8. Combination locks were used sparingly.
  9. Puzzles were identifiable.

Cons

  1. Because there was no ceiling, outside sound could be heard. Not a big deal.
