Overview

Hype:

The Education in Zion Gallery serves as both an educational and spiritual space, inviting visitors to reflect on the connection between faith and learning within the Latter-day Saint tradition. The exhibits showcase the development of Church education from its early beginnings to the establishment of institutions like BYU, illustrating how faith and scholarship intertwine to promote personal growth and service. Through multimedia displays, historical artifacts, and personal stories, the gallery highlights individuals who have embodied the pursuit of truth and divine understanding.

Located in the Joseph F. Smith Building on BYU’s campus, the gallery offers a peaceful, contemplative environment for students, visitors, and community members. It functions not only as a museum but also as a venue for lectures, discussions, and reflection on the spiritual dimensions of education. The layout and design encourage exploration and introspection, allowing visitors to see education as a sacred, lifelong journey rather than merely an academic endeavor.

As an integral part of BYU’s mission to integrate faith and reason, the Education in Zion Gallery embodies the university’s motto, “The glory of God is intelligence.” It reinforces the idea that seeking knowledge is a divine mandate and that education, when guided by spiritual principles, can lead to greater discipleship and service to others. The gallery continues to inspire visitors by connecting past educational efforts to present opportunities for spiritual and intellectual growth.

Story

After work, I met up with Tara and the Kirkhams. We had Olive Garden takeout in the Wilkinson Center food court, then wandered around BYU campus for a bit. We meandered over to the Marriott Center for Kylie’s high school graduation.
