Hype:
Salem Pond is an awesome little lake in Salem. We've taken the canoes out a couple of times. There is a boat launch and a pedestrian bridge over the pond. At Christmas time, Salem puts on Pond Town Christmas, a floating Christmas tree display.

Jeremy Dye, Scout Troop,
I helped Rolo Chavez and his scouts learn how to canoe. We took canoes to Salem Pond and had them practice the strokes in different combinations. We found out that our orange canoe had a giant hole in the bottom because as soon as we set it in the pond, it started taking on water. Bummer.

We met up with the Kirkhams and took the kayaks out on the pond. We borrowed the Parkerss kayaks too so we would have enough for everyone. We made up a new sport we called kayak soccer where we tried to push and hit a beach ball until it touched one or the other docks. We played hard for about 15 minutes to the first goal then everyone quit, exhausted. The medium-aged kids paddles around on their own and explored.

Jeremy Dye, Spanish Fields Priests,
We took the canoes out on the pond and let the boys and leaders practice paddling solo and with partners. We also swamped the canoes and practiced unswamping them.

The cub scouts borrowed our canoes for one of their activities. Tara was at a canyoneering practice, and I had young men's, so Marci offered to take our kids with her. They played at the pond, and I joined them for an hour or so after my activity was done.

Anthony called me up on Thursday night and asked if we wanted to canoe around the floating Christmas trees at Salem Pond. Of course we said yes! So on Friday, we bundled everyone up and launched the canoes. We paddled around the pond for about 45 minutes then went back to our house. Brenen and Shaylin and later Ondylyn and Jaren joined us for a Christmas movie and brownies.
