Story

We finished Crumbling Canyon by about 5:30, got all the gear sorted out, drove to the Spanish Fork River Park, and had dinner. That's when we decided to continue with our plans to go down the river. Let's just say this wasn't the brightest decision we've made. We dropped off the canoes and shuttled the truck down the canyon and headed on our way. We launched the two canoes at 7:11. We discovered very quickly that there was not enough water and a lot of large rocks. Jeremy paddled one canoe with 4 kids, and Marci and I paddled the other canoe with 3 kids. Pretty much we got stuck every other minute. When we hit the rapids, I knew I was very much out of my league with my paddling skills. I am very surprised that we never flipped a canoe on the whole trip. By the time it was very nearly dark (around 8:25) I got out at the Covered Bridge that provided access to the highway. Cooper was super cold and wet, so I stripped him down and gave him my shirt and snuggled him against me as we waited for Jeremy to finish down the river and come pick us up. It was about 9:30 when he got there. Apparently he had a talking to about getting out too close to the dam. It was private property. They were pretty nice about and helped us load up the canoes and be on our way. But the moral of the story is don't paddle all the way down to the dam. We got home after ten and went right to bed.
