I took a boring plastic cauldron and made it look more authentic. At first, I tried smearing oatmeal on the outside like someone suggested online, but as soon as it dried, it flaked off and made a mess. The method that worked a lot better was to take PVC sawdust from my graveyard fence project and mix it with Liquid Nails construction adhesive and smear it all over the outside in patches. Then I painted the whole thing with reds and oranges to look like rust and burned food.
