This handcrafted fire globe is a functional sculpture that blends fire, landscape, and metalwork into a striking outdoor centerpiece. Constructed from heavy-gauge steel and plasma cut by hand, the globe features layered silhouettes of trees, sky, and flowing forms that wrap around a spherical fire pit, creating a continuous natural scene. To create the design, Greg used an overhead projector at night to cast the artwork directly onto the steel surface. The projected imagery was carefully traced by hand before being plasma cut, allowing the detailed landscape to flow seamlessly across the curved form. This process combines traditional hands-on drafting with modern cutting techniques, giving the piece both precision and a distinctly human touch. When lit, the fire globe comes alive. Flames flicker through the cut steel, casting dynamic shadows and glowing patterns onto the surrounding ground and nearby surfaces. Mounted on a wheeled base for mobility, the sculpture is designed for outdoor gatherings, offering warmth, light, and visual drama. Both utilitarian and artistic, this fire globe transforms a simple fire pit into an immersive experience, celebrating craftsmanship, ingenuity, and the elemental beauty of fire and steel.
