You can use a zipline to pass packs over a pothole or other obstacle. This allows you to bridge over the pothole without the extra weight of your pack. A zipline can also be used to keep gear dry.
Rigging a zipline for packs is really easy. You just have one person hold each end of the rope, clip a carabiner around the rope, and let the pack slide down the rope.
