I created this page with the intent of volunteering to help you with your scout activities. I had some really great scout leaders growing up, including Ron Lish and Glen Tweedy, who took anywhere from 12 to 22 of us boys camping almost every single month. They instilled in me a love of scouting and of the outdoors, and I want to pay that forward.
I am a merit badge counselor for the following merit badges:
I am also a qualified rock climbing instructor. If you're like most scout leaders, you're aware that the BSA's Climb on Safely requires both qualified supervision and qualified instructors for all climbing/rappelling activies. And you've probably wondered, "where can I find a qualified climbing instructor?"
Look no further.
I live in Richfield, UT, but don't let that scare you away if you're not super close. You can come to me, I can come to you, or we can meet somewhere. I don't charge anything except gas money.
In June 2012, I helped Troop 1702 of Monroe, UT earn the Climbing merit badge. The schedule was as follows:
Wednesday, June 12, 7:00-9:00 - Classroom setting covered all the stuff you need to know before going rock climbing or rappelling.
Wednesday, June 19, 6:00-9:00 - Rock climbing in Monroe Canyon.
Wednesday, June 26, 6:00-9:00 - Rappelling in Archery Canyon.
If you live farther away, we would make a weekend out of it instead of spreading it out over several weeknights. The schedule could go something like this:
Friday Evening - Camping at Tire Valley. Instruction around campfire.
Saturday Morning - Rappelling at Tire Valley or in Archery Canyon.
Saturday Lunch - Monrovian Park.
Saturday Afternoon - Rock Climbing in Monroe Canyon.
