Description
A counterweight anchor is an object tied at the end of a rope that is draped over a ledge of some sort.
The counterweight can be:
- A rock.
- A log.
- Some other object.
The counterweight anchor does not need to weigh as much as the rappeler because of the friction of the rope going over the ledge. Sometimes, counterweight anchors can be placed from the bottom of the cliff by throwing the anchor over the lip. Counterweight anchors often have very small safety factors, so test them as thoroughly as possible before trusting them.
