Overview

Hype:

The Grand Gulch trail extends about 16 miles along the base of the Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef National Park. The northern end of Grand Gulch connects with the Post Corral trailhead and Lower Muley Twist, while the southern end connects to the Halls Creek Narrows loop. There are also two trailheads along the east rim that provide access to Grand Gulch: the Halls Creek Overlook trailhead and the Airstrip trailhead. The Grand Gulch trail takes hikers and backpackers along the banks of Halls Creek and past several slot canyons and tanks. Halls Creek is generally dry, so drinking water can be hard to locate.

Story

We parked at the airstrip trailhead and hiked down to the Halls Creek Alcove primitive camping site. Over the next few days, we did a bunch of nearby canyons and hiked up and down the Grand Gulch trail to access the different canyons. Then on the last day, we hiked out and headed home.
