Hype:
The Civil Defense Caves in Idaho offer a unique underground adventure for explorers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience. Located near Rexburg, these lava tube caves were once considered potential fallout shelters during the Cold War era, lending them their distinctive name. Today, they are known for their fascinating rock formations and cool, dark interior. As you explore the caves, you'll notice a large collection of graffiti on the walls, left by past visitors, which adds an interesting layer to the cave’s history. The caves are popular among families, explorers, and those intrigued by Idaho's underground landscapes. Be sure to bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, as the caves are dim and can be slippery in places.

Due to trailer problems, Anthony, Ari, and Kingston skipped the activities for the day. The rest of us went to the Civil Defense Caves.
The lava tube was fun, but it was a bit too rocky for Dad. He made it about halfway then turned back. The rest of us went all the way to the end and had a great time. The graffiti was not appreciated but was also fun to look at, so kind of a love-hate relationship there.
On the way out, Miller slipped and cut his knee open quite deeply. His biggest concern was that he would have to go to the doctor to get stitches because he is afraid of doctors. We cleaned it up as best we could and wrapped it with gauze then called Ari to see what she wanted to do. They decided not to take him in which was probably the right call.
