SAIS Rope Retrieval System

Description

The SAIS Rope Retrieval System can be used to attach to an anchor like a tree or a rock when it is undesirable to drag the entire rappel length of rope around the anchor after rappelling. Dragging a long rope around a tree can damage the bark, and dragging the rope around a rock can leave deep rope grooves.

Advantages

The SAIS Rope Retrieval System has the advantage of coming down with only minimal dragging around the anchor.

Disadvantages

It requires the use of a sling.

The SAIS Rope Retrieval System involves soft-on-soft rubbing, which can lead to accelerated rope damage.

If you rappel on the wrong strand of rope, the system will fail, likely resulting in serious injury or death.

The SAIS Rope Retrieval System has not been tested very much, so there may be other serious flaws with this system that are still unknown.
