Getting There

Navigate to 37.701518, -110.580349.

Alternatively if you want to shuttle, you can also park at 37.707189°, -110.594081°.

Route

Approach

2.25 miles, 1.5 hours. Mostly flat hiking along the rim from the trailhead to the top of Triple Bypass Canyon.

Canyon

0.75 miles, 5 hours. Lots of potholes and slides and downclimbs with a few rappels scattered in between. The last rappel is about 200 ft.

Exit

2 miles, 1.5 hours. Hike down the canyon for 1.3 miles until you see a sheep trail going up cliff on the south. It's the only spot that look like it oculd be an escape. Take the sheep trail up the switchbacks to the rim and your car.

Logistics

9:00 - Start at Tank trailhead (no shuttles)

10:30 - Top of canyon

3:10 - Bottom of canyon

4:30 - Back at cars

Story

The canyon wasn't spectacular, but the group we were with made it amazing. Johan brough his packraft and we slid down the rock into several potholes. It was completely ridiculous but fun.
