Park at the Long Canyon Trailhead. If parking is not available, park 1/3 miles south at the Mescal Trailhead.
From the trailhead, follow the well maintained Long Canyon Trail northwest for 0.62 miles. The Long Canyon continues, but right before the fence crossing, turn left and follow the Birthing Cave trail west for 0.34 miles to Birthing Cave. This trail junction is easy to miss. The last hundred feet is relatively loose and steep, so practice caution.

The Dyes and Parkers hiked up to the Birthing Cave. We missed the trail junction and took the wrong fork for a while before backtracking to find the right trail. There were quite a few others on the trail.
