Hype:
The Schuk Toak Visitor Center at El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve has a modern museum exhibition with interactive screens, videos and images related to the Sonoran Desert and specifically the El Pinacate volcanic Shield and the Gran Desierto de Altar. There is an audiovisual room in which you can watch a 15-minute documentary with the most important data on flora, fauna, volcanic events and the Tohono O'odham. On the outside of the building, there are three interpretive trails (biological, geological and general) that you can walk on foot. The Visitor Center is built on the most extensive and recent lava flow that existed in this place (approximately 12 thousand years ago).

Tara and I had a fun time trying to read all the museum signs that were in Spanish. We definitely didn't understand everything, but we got the gist of most of it. My favorite part was learning about the salt pilgrimage that the ancient Native Americans in the region underwent.
