Description

Canyons can be extremely rough on cameras. Particularly, canyons have a lot of sand and often water. Sand will destroy any camera with moving parts. Water will destroy any camera that is not waterproof. Nowadays, most people who canyoneer use their cell phones almost exclusively unless they're in a photography-specific canyon like Antelope Canyon. Phones can be at least somewhat protected with a picpocket, flexible waterproof case, or hard case. 

I'm not a professional photographer, but here are a few tips that have worked for me.

• Shoot into the light.
• Don't forget to look up and look behind you.
• Use a wide-angle lens.
• Reduce blur through stabilization or a tripod.
• Look for the action that tells a story.
• Adjust exposure for the brightest part of your picture and let the rest be underexposed.
