Overview

Hype:

This is the northern route to Mt. Nebo's highest peak. Mt. Nebo at 11,928 feet is the highest, and southernmost peak in the Wasatch Range. It is a mountain of three main peaks. The first three and a half miles of the hike are easy with only about 1,400 feet of elevation gain. Hike through beautiful grassy meadows accentuated by white fur and quaking aspens. The final leg of the hike is the toughest with 1,300 feet gained in three quarters of a mile scrambling up loose shale and black limestone. This hike is a steep one, but it is definitely worth it - the views are spectacular. Nebo is an excellent hike for anyone who likes to bag high peaks and get away from the crowds of closer more frequented peaks.

Trail Condition: Class 2 (Trail may have tree roots or rocks jutting out. Navigation skills may consist of following rock cairns and choosing turns at junctions. Elevation gains may be more substantial.)

Story

Tara and Savannah woke up at 5:30 to hike Mount Nebo. I was hoping to go as well but stayed back with Cooper because he was sick. They got to the trailhead just after 7:00. Also on the trip were Marci, Ondy, Anthony, Brenen, Shaylin, and Anthony's coworker. Savannah did really good at the start but ran out of steam and had a really hard time for the second half. The group split up and Tara and Savannah made it to the peak quite a bit later than everyone else. On the way down, Tara's knee was hurting her pretty bad. It ended up taking them about 8 hours total.
