Getting There

Navigate to -18.138839, 177.508556.

Shuttle pickup can be arranged from local hotels for a fee, or at the Tappoo Sigatoka Shop. The pickup location is very confusing because it's at a sports apparrel shop with no signs for the river safari.

Story

We had a hard time locating the pickup point but eventually found it. We caught the shuttle up to the boat launch site and were given life jackets then boarded the jet boat up the river. I was expecting a guided tour up the river, but we just went full throttle the whole time. We were seated in the back next to the motor and it wasn't a very pleasant ride at all. The wind was too fast to see anything through watery eyes, and the motor was so loud it made your ears ring long after. We were dropped off at the Nalebaleba Village and were given a tour of some of the homes and their church. We were told a few ancient customs then taken over to their village hall. We participated in a kava ceremony then ate lunch. There were several dozen locals just hanging around and singing while we ate. After the meal, we did some dancing then caught the jet boat suttle back to the boat launch. We did a couple of 360s on the way and posed for overpriced pictures then caught the shuttle back down to Sigatoka. Overall, we had a fun time and enjoyed seeing some of the local culture, but it felt like the experience was over-sold and overpriced.
