Knee pads can be very useful when doing any canyon with stemming or elevator downclimbs. Any old knee pads will work. Some people apply roofing tar to try to protect them from damage and extend their life a little. I've had decent luck with the plastic style kneepads from a home improvement store, but I cut the stitching and removed the plastic part before using them in a canyon.
