A toggle is a device that can be inserted into a knot at the top of a rappel then be removed from the bottom, releasing the rappel rope as well. There are at least two manufacturer of toggles (the Imlay Canyon Gear FiddleStick and the BluuGnome Smooth Operator), or you can make your own.
