Overview

Hype:

Hidden Pinyon Trail offers a compact introduction to Snow Canyon’s desert landscape, with sandy and rocky footing, narrow rock passages, lava-stone contrasts, and interpretive signs about local plants and geology.

The hike is suitable for most hikers, though it has uneven terrain, a few steeper spots, and limited shade, so water, sun protection, and sturdy shoes are useful. Dogs are not allowed on the main Hidden Pinyon Trail according to Hike St. George.

The best time to visit is spring, fall, and winter, when temperatures around St. George are more comfortable. Summer can still be possible very early or late in the day, but midday heat makes it less recommended.

Trail Condition: Class 2 (Trail may have tree roots or rocks jutting out. Navigation skills may consist of following rock cairns and choosing turns at junctions. Elevation gains may be more substantial.)

After sunset, we hiked the Hidden Pinyon Trail again and explored a small slot canyon. On the way back, we quizzed each other on the plants we had learned.
