Overview

Hype:

The St. George home of Brigham and Amelia Young was constructed during a period when Brigham Young regularly traveled to southern Utah to guide settlement efforts. Because winters in northern Utah could be harsh, St. George became an important seasonal base, and this home provided a comfortable place for him and Amelia to stay while managing church and community affairs. It reflects both practicality and a level of refinement compared to earlier pioneer dwellings.

Amelia Folsom Young, for whom the home is closely associated, was known for her more refined tastes, and the residence often reflected that in its design and furnishings. While not as large or famous as the Beehive or Lion House in Salt Lake City, the Brigham and Amelial Young home still symbolized Brigham Young’s leadership presence in southern Utah and his role in expanding settlements into more challenging environments.

Today, the home is part of St. George’s historic landscape and is often included in discussions of early Latter-day Saint settlement, regional leadership, and pioneer life in Utah’s Dixie region. It helps illustrate how leaders like Brigham Young maintained multiple residences to manage a growing territory and community.

Story

Tara, the girls, and the Parkers went to the Brigham and Amelia Young home tour in St. George. The guide was really new, so everyone at the back of the group didn’t catch very much.
