Overview

Hype:

Lowell Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Lowell Observatory was established in 1894, placing it among the oldest observatories in the United States, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. It was at the Lowell Observatory that the dwarf planet Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh. The observatory operates several telescopes at three locations in the Flagstaff area. The main facility, located on Mars Hill just west of downtown Flagstaff, houses the original 24-inch Clark Refracting Telescope, which is now used for public education. Also located on the Mars Hill campus is the 13-inch Pluto Discovery Telescope.

Story

Several of us went to the Lowell Observatory while everyone else stayed at the Airbnb and watched a movie. We attended a presentation on dark matter then observed the M3 messier object in one telescope then looked at the pluto telescope then looked at the moon and other objects in the smaller telescopes. It was horribly cold and entirely outdoors, which we didn't plan well for.
