This popular hike in Sedona, AZ leads to an alcove called the Birthing Cave. 

Trail Condition: Class 2 (Trail may have tree roots or rocks jutting out. Navigation skills may consist of following rock cairns and choosing turns at junctions. Elevation gains may be more substantial.)

Getting There

Navigate to 34.906800, -111.824459.

Park at the Long Canyon Trailhead. If parking is not available, park 1/3 miles south at the Mescal Trailhead.

Route

From the trailhead, follow the well maintained Long Canyon Trail northwest for 0.62 miles. The Long Canyon continues, but right before the fence crossing, turn left and follow the Birthing Cave trail west for 0.34 miles to Birthing Cave. This trail junction is easy to miss. The last hundred feet is relatively loose and steep, so practice caution.

Story

The Dyes and Parkers hiked up to the Birthing Cave. We missed the trail junction and took the wrong fork for a while before backtracking to find the right trail. There were quite a few others on the trail.
