Overview

Hype:

The Te Anau Bird Sanctuary is located just down the road from the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre on the shores of Lake Te Anau. The sanctuary is home to a number of bird species including Takahe, Kaka, Antipodes Island parakeets, and Ruru koukou. The birds held here have either been injured and cannot survive in the wild, or they are involved in captive rearing programs. The injured birds are rehabilitated and if possible, released back into the wild.

Story

We stopped at the bird sanctuary on our way back from our Kepler Track hike. We wandered around and saw various birds. Savannah was pretty tired after our hike, and there wasn't really that much to see, so we didn't stay long.
