Overview

Hype:

Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument is a Pliocene-age site near Hagerman, Idaho. The 4,351-acre Monument is internationally significant because it protects one of the richest known fossil deposits from the Blancan North American Land Mammal Age. These fossils date from 3.07 million to at least 4 million years ago in age and represent at least 200 species. Hagerman is best known for having the largest known concentration of the fossil horse, Equus simplicidins. The fossil beds, including the historic Smithsonian Horse Quarry, were designated a National Natural Landmark in 1975 and was reclassified as a National Monument in 1988.

Story

Thursday, we loaded up the car and then took a trip down to Hagerman National Monument. We perused the small museum, and the kids did their junior ranger packets. The ranger asked Savannah what she learned, and Savannah said she didn't learn anything because she knew everything already. Typical 12-year-old. We didn't go all the way out to the fossil beds due to time constraints.
