Story

Friday, May 23 - We drove down to The Wedge for Memorial Day weekend. We used the restrooms and wandered around the Buckhorn Wash visitor center. Then we parked the trailer northeast of the visitor center on a random dirt road. There were a ton of people camped everywhere. That night, we played Canadian Salad and Kids Against Maturity, then we read books.

Saturday, May 24 - We had a slow morning then packed our daypacks and drove to Fuller Bottom. We hiked two miles to the Sorrel Mule Mine, stopping to look at petroglyphs along the way. Afterward, we drove to an area with rock stacks, known either as Mushroom Rock or Hamburger Rocks. We climbed around and took some pictures. Next, we visited Ghoul Gulch. Madi was pretty tired by then, so she stayed near the start while the rest of us explored. We took more pictures and had a great time.

Back at camp, we played The Totally Insane Card Game, had dinner, then played Five Crowns, Headbands, and White Lies. As we were going to bed, Savannah’s ear started hurting badly and kept her up most of the night. Around 4 a.m., her eardrum burst.

Sunday, May 25 - We called the telehealth doctor, and they called in a prescription for us. The only place open on a Sunday was the Walmart in Price, about an hour away. We gave Savannah some pain killers, and she fell back asleep.

The rest of us drove up the road and visited several petroglyph panels along the foothills. We got back to the trailer around the same time Savannah was waking up. We played The Crew and had lunch. Then we packed up to go pick up Savannah’s medicine in Price.

As we were driving, we double-checked to make sure the pharmacy would be open when we got there and discovered it was actually closed on Sundays. So instead, we drove down Buckhorn Wash Road. We drove down to Swinging Bridge and worked our way back up the road, stopping at various sites along the way.

I successfully crawled through Split Rock, which was quite tricky.

We stopped at the Buckhorn Wash pictograph panel, which was amazing. We were impressed by all the vandalism removal and restoration that had been done at the site. Then we stopped at Buckhorn Cave, a shallow alcove with lots of black on the ceilings and white graffiti. After that, we visited the Big Panel petroglyphs.Tara and I hiked up to the TKG petroglyph panel. The kids were tired and wanted to stay in the car. Tara and I also looked for the Black Rock petroglyph but couldn’t find anything noteworthy. We did find a random geocache though. Then Tara, Cooper, and I hiked up to the dinosaur footprint. Tara and I also hiked to the Morrison Knudsen tunnels and Ruin Arch. All the stops along the road were very short, but our kids weren’t inclined to get out for most of them. Savannah wasn't feeling well, which was a perfectly valid excuse, but Madi and Cooper were just being lazy.

Back at the trailer, the kids read books while Tara and I played Quiddler. Tara wanted to read too, but Cooper had her phone so he could read Harry Potter 2. We made plans for deep cleaning this upcoming week. After dinner, we played Kids Against Maturity, Canadian Salad, and Likewise before going to bed.

Monday, May 26 - We had a slow morning. We played some games then packed up. We drove down to the wedge overlook and marveled at the views.

Then we drove home. We stopped in Price on the way to get Savannah’s prescription.
