Overview

Hype:

The Railroad Rock site is a fascinating combination of historic inscriptions and ancient indigenous rock art, located in the San Rafael Swell region of central Utah, along Lower Cedar Mountain Road (which branches from the Green River Cutoff Road between Green River and Castle Dale). The site is part of a cluster of rock-art panels in the area, which also includes the nearby Silent Sentinel Panel, Daisy Chain Panel, and 45 Degree Rock.

The site features large boulders that carry two fairly distinct sets of markings:

  1. Historic inscriptions left by workers involved in the abandoned “Spirit Railroad” project around 1881.
  2. Petroglyphs (pecked or carved rock-art) of Native origin, likely belonging to the Fremont or other ancient cultures that inhabited the region.

Story

We called the telehealth doctor, and they called in a prescription for us. The only place open on a Sunday was the Walmart in Price, about an hour away. We gave Savannah some pain killers, and she fell back asleep.

The rest of us drove up the road and visited several petroglyph panels along the foothills.

We got back to the trailer around the same time Savannah was waking up.
