Hype:
Hole-in-the-Rock, located in Papago Park in Phoenix, Arizona, is a fascinating geological formation and one of the park’s most iconic landmarks. This natural sandstone butte features a large, eroded opening near its summit that frames expansive views of the surrounding desert, city skyline, and nearby lagoons. A short, easy trail leads visitors up to the cave-like opening, making it accessible for families and casual hikers. The spot is especially popular at sunrise and sunset, when the rock glows with warm colors and the view is particularly striking. Combining natural history, scenic beauty, and cultural significance—it was once used by the Hohokam people as a solar calendar—Hole-in-the-Rock is a must-visit destination in the heart of Phoenix.

Whiel I was in Phoenix for a work trip, I went to Papago Park and hiked up to Hole in the Rock. There was a trail that most people took to go around and approach it from the back, but I went straight up the front. There was a crack to climb, so it was similar to some canyoneering routes.
