Hype:
The Timpooneke trail to Mount Timpanogos Peak is slightly longer than the Mount Timpanogos trail. Because it is longer, it is also less crowded. The Timpooneke trailhead is about 500 feet higher in elevation than the Mount Timpanogos trailhead, and the trail gains elevation slower, so the hike is a little less rigorous.
Trail Condition: Class 2 (Trail may have tree roots or rocks jutting out. Navigation skills may consist of following rock cairns and choosing turns at junctions. Elevation gains may be more substantial.)
Time: 5-12 hours

Tara Dye, Ondylyn Wagner, Becca Bevan,
I went hiking up Timpanogos starting at 6:00 a.m with Ondy and Becca. I was glad I had made reservations for parking at the trailhead a couple of week previous. It was nice to be able to drive up and have parking available. We started hiking around 7:25. We passed a large number of parties heading down after hiking up to see the sunrise. We had to have passed at least 100 people heading down. We reached the saddle around 10:50, ate lunch and reached the summit around 12:00.
We hung around the summit for a while. Someone was installing a new book for people to sign so we waited to sign it. On the way down, we saw a bunch of hunters surrounding a dead goat that they apparently had shot. We were a bit alarmed because there were a lot of people on this trail so it seemed really irresponsible. When we reached the trailhead around 4, just ahead of the storm, we asked one of the people about it and they said the hunters had a permit. Just seems very unsporting since those goats don't even run away from people or anything.
