Overview

Hype:

This cave is mostly horizontal for about 300 feet, at which point the only direction to go is up. Chimney up for about 20-30 feet then there is another horizontal passage. There's a really tight spot that blocks most cavers, but continuing through opens up to a room that splits off into a few different passages. All of them dead end relatively quickly except for one that goes straight up. Unfortunately the walls are too far apart for chimneying, and the rock is too slick to climb, so there may be more we don't know about.

Story

Madi and I went to Springville Cave for our Daddy-Daughter date. It was the peak quarantine time, so we went somewhere without a lot of people. We took a wrong turn at the mouth of the canyon (which actually ended up being an alternate trail but we didn't know that), so we backtracked to find the trail that went up the drainage instead. There was one other family that we ran into, and they were just hiking around. There were a couple of spots where we had to wait for them to finish before we started up because they were knocking loose rocks down at us. When we got to the cave, Madi went first. We explored to the end of the ground-level portion. Madi wanted to try climbing up the rope, so we chimneyed up together. We got about 10 feet off the ground before she got nervous, so we headed back down and back to the entrance. 

On the hike down, Madi didn't want to take the trail because there were a lot of steep parts, so she asked if we could hike straight down the face of the mountain instead. Initially I said no because I wasn't sure if we would get cliffed out, but then I got to thinking that I wanted to foster a sense of exploring and adventure in her, so we hiked down the face instead. It ended up working out pretty well, and there weren't any spots where climbing was necessary. We held the hands most of the way though because it was so steep.

Story

We took some college friends up to Springville Cave with us. On the hike up, there was a fog bank that rolled in. It was so awesome to watch it come down the canyon towards us until we were in the middle of it and couldn't see anything.
