Hype:
The hike to Mount Olympus in Utah is one of the most iconic and challenging trails in the Salt Lake Valley, offering stunning views and a rewarding summit. This 6.8-mile round-trip trail starts at an elevation of 4,800 feet and climbs steeply to 9,030 feet at the summit, gaining over 4,000 feet in elevation. The trail is well-marked but demanding, with a mix of switchbacks, rocky terrain, and steep inclines that require a good level of fitness. Along the way, hikers are treated to breathtaking views of the valley, thick stands of oak and maple trees, and unique rock formations. The shaded sections provide some respite on sunny days, but the upper portions are more exposed, making early morning or evening hikes a better option during the summer.
The final push to the summit involves a scramble over large boulders, adding a sense of adventure to the trek. At the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Salt Lake Valley to the west and the rugged Wasatch Mountains to the east. On clear days, you can see as far as the Great Salt Lake and the Oquirrh Mountains. Mount Olympus is a favorite for locals and visitors alike, offering a sense of accomplishment and an unforgettable experience for those who reach its peak. Whether you’re seeking a rigorous workout or a chance to connect with nature, this trail is a must-do for avid hikers in Utah.

Tara got up before dawn and hiked Mount Olympus with Marci and Ondy. It was really steep, but they made good time. Tara's knees started hurting her on the way down because the trail was so steep. She got home around lunch time.
