Overview

Hype:

Dæmpegårdsdyssen, commonly called Kongedyssen, is a prehistoric megalithic monument from the Danish Neolithic period, constructed by early farming communities of the Funnelbeaker culture. It represents one of the earliest forms of monumental architecture in Scandinavia and reflects communal burial practices and ritual landscapes of the Stone Age.

The monument is a long barrow approximately 45 meters long and 13 meters wide, defined by a rectangular stone setting and containing two dolmen chambers, one of which is surrounded by a stone circle. Its structure illustrates the transition from simple burials to more complex, symbolic constructions meant to endure in the landscape.

Located in a forested area near Lillerød and Blovstrød, the site is legally protected and easily accessible by footpaths, making it both an important archaeological site and a destination for visitors interested in Danish prehistory, ancient burial customs, and cultural heritage embedded in nature.

Story

Back at the car, we drove down to one of the best-preserved and biggest burial mounds in the area. A long time ago, the people would build a stone ring with a stone table in the middle as a burial place. This one had two different tables. We snaked our way through the stinging nettle with no incident and even swung on a rope swing on our walk back.
