Copenhagen City Hall was completed in 1905 and designed by architect Martin Nyrop, drawing inspiration from Italian Renaissance civic buildings while incorporating distinctly Danish materials and craftsmanship. Its red-brick exterior, decorative details, and soaring tower make it one of the most recognizable structures in central Copenhagen.
The interior is equally significant, featuring grand halls used for civic events, weddings, and official ceremonies, as well as Jens Olsen’s World Clock, an intricate astronomical clock renowned for its precision and engineering. Visitors can explore parts of the building and, at certain times, climb the tower for panoramic views of the city.
Situated next to Tivoli Gardens and at the entrance to Strøget, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping streets, Copenhagen City Hall sits at the center of city life. The surrounding square regularly hosts celebrations, demonstrations, and public gatherings, reinforcing the building’s importance in both the political and cultural identity of Copenhagen.
