Hype:

The Coastal Museum Bangsbo Fort is located on a hilltop south of Frederikshavn and represents an important part of Denmark’s military heritage. Originally constructed by German forces during World War II as part of the Atlantic Wall, the fort later became a strategic installation for the Danish Navy during the Cold War, making it unique for spanning two major military periods.

Visitors to the museum can explore a large bunker complex, with around twenty reinforced concrete bunkers open to the public. Inside, exhibitions explain wartime technology, daily life for soldiers, and Denmark’s coastal defense strategy, while outdoor paths connect gun emplacements, observation posts, and historical structures.

In addition to its historical value, Bangsbo Fort offers impressive natural surroundings and views. Situated high above sea level, the site provides sweeping vistas of Frederikshavn, the sea, and nearby coastal areas, making it both an educational and scenic destination, particularly appealing during warmer months.

Story

On the drive home, we stopped at a bunker museum and walked through several bunkers on the hillside. They had some guns still there pointed out over the ocean. 

There were a bunch of sheep grazing in the area, and Cooper accidentally leaned against an electric fence and got shocked. He didn’t appreciate that. 

Then later, when we were cutting through the grass to get to a bunker, Cooper got a bunch of stinging nettle all over his leg. 

On the drive home, Cooper said that the bunkers were a very painful experience. I thought he meant the bunkers, but he actually meant the pain from the fence and stinging nettle.
