The Museum of Nature and Environment, known in German as Museum für Natur und Umwelt, is located in Lübeck’s historic old town near the cathedral and has roots going back to the 19th century. It serves as an important cultural and scientific institution dedicated to explaining the natural world and humanity’s relationship with the environment.
Its exhibitions cover subjects such as local ecosystems, animal and plant life, fossils, and geological history, including notable whale fossils that reflect the region’s prehistoric past. Many displays are designed to be hands-on and educational, making the museum especially appealing to families, students, and school groups.
The museum also emphasizes environmental awareness and conservation through rotating exhibitions and educational programs. As an indoor attraction, it can be visited year-round and is often included as part of a broader exploration of Lübeck’s museums and historic sites.

After that, we walked to the south end of the city center and went to a natural history museum called the Museum of Nature and Environment. It was free for us because we bought the city pass at the Museum Holstentor. The museum was all right but not amazing—it was pretty small.
