Story

Tuesday, June 24 – I got up at 7:00, showered, and got ready. Tara followed. I made breakfast and got the kids moving, though they struggled since they were still tired and Savannah wasn’t feeling great. We lost about half an hour waiting for them to get ready and then another hour and a half wrestling with transportation logistics.

We tried to use a bike-sharing service, but it wouldn’t text the two-factor authentication code to our phone. Since you can only rent four bikes per account, we needed a second account for the fifth bike — and therefore a second phone with a SIM card, which Tara didn’t have yet. We switched to the bus instead, downloading the HVV Switch app for buses and subways. It refused to accept our credit card, and after some troubleshooting we learned it’s been broken for a long time and only accepts PayPal instead of credit cards. 

One of Tara’s trip prep tasks was to handle all transportation arrangements (except flights, which I booked), but she made almost no effort on it in the moths leading up to our trip, so now we were stuck figuring things out last-minute. I was feeling very frustrated. We finally got transportation sorted out and left for the day at 10:15 instead of 8:30 like we were hoping.

Since bike sharing was out, we rode a bus and two subway lines to Port Des Lumieres. 

The light show there was amazing, and we enjoyed the children’s area. They have an interactive coloring activity where you can color pieces of paper and then scan them in. The scanned images then get animated on the walls.
