Hype:

Marienkirche Lübeck stands on the highest point of Lübeck’s old town and is one of the largest brick churches in the world, notable for its massive scale, twin towers, and exceptionally high brick vaults. Constructed during Lübeck’s rise as a leading Hanseatic trading city, the church became a model for Brick Gothic architecture throughout northern Europe.

The interior of the church reflects both its artistic and historical significance, featuring an astronomical clock, medieval art, and the remains of bells that fell during the Allied bombing of 1942, intentionally left on the floor as a war memorial. These elements connect the church’s medieval origins with its modern history and role as a place of remembrance.

Today, Marienkirche functions as an active Lutheran parish church as well as a major cultural attraction within Lübeck’s UNESCO World Heritage old town. Visitors come to experience its architecture, history, and spiritual atmosphere, making it one of the city’s most important landmarks.

Story

Then we walked up the street to Marienkirche, which is a Lutheran Gothic church that was rebuilt after World War II. The church was interesting because they had a bunch of skulls in their statues and because the figures in the stained glass windows looked like Halloween costumes. 

We took some pictures next to the Devil's Stone.
