August 6, 2025 Trip Report

Story

Wednesday, August 6 - I took the day off work. We spent the whole day at Land of Legends Viking Park, about an hour’s drive away. We molded books and rune tablets out of clay. 

Then we had lunch next to the lake. We fed the carp some of our onion chips, which was fun to watch as they swam over each other to get to it.

We walked around the boardwalk and learned about natural dyes for yarn.

We went up to the farm area and fed the ducks and goats from our hands, which was very ticklish, especially with the ducks.

We braided bracelets out of the yarn, which was a lot of fun for everyone.

We metal detected for buried artifacts.

Then we paddled the rowboat around the pond. Madi steered us into a tree.

We tried on armor in the longhouse. 

As we were finishing up for the day, we struck up a conversation with one of the workers cooking dinner over a fire. He said he stays there for a week, sleeps in the Viking houses, and lives a primitive life while he’s there. He had his kids with him, and our kids thought that sounded like a lot of fun. 

The park closed at 5:00, but we stayed a little past that so we could see the last parts we hadn’t seen. We grabbed our clay and finished up about 45 minutes after they closed. Luckily, they were chill about it.
