The Royal Stables at Christiansborg Palace date back to the 18th century and are among the few surviving elements of the original Baroque Christiansborg Palace. They were constructed to support the Danish royal household and have remained in continuous use despite multiple palace fires over the centuries. Today, they stand as an important symbol of royal heritage and architectural history.
The stables currently house a small number of horses used primarily for ceremonial duties such as state visits, royal weddings, and official processions. Visitors can observe the horses, explore the historic stable buildings, and view exhibitions that explain the daily care, training, and traditions associated with royal equestrian life.
In addition to the living stables, the site includes a carriage museum displaying ornate state coaches, saddles, and harnesses used by Danish royalty. Combined with its central location at Christiansborg Palace, which also houses the Danish Parliament, the Royal Stables offer visitors a unique insight into Denmark’s blend of monarchy, history, and modern governance.
